Obituary:

Maria E. Filippini (nee Scaramuzzi) age 84, passed away in the comfort of her home in Staten Island on August 7, 2017.

A native Staten Islander, Maria was born in West Brighton and later resided in New Springville. She moved to Hollywood, Florida in 1993.

Maria graduated from Port Richmond High School and married Albert R. Filippini in 1955. Together they had six children. At the passing of her husband in 1978, Mrs. Filippini was employed as a school secretary at Susan E. Wagner High School. Later in life, at the age of 56, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Staten Island.

Mrs. Filippini was an avid reader who enjoyed traveling the world, playing cards and socializing with her friends and family. She was extremely patriotic. Maria was an enthusiastic volunteer for March of Dimes, Girl Scouts, Deborah, Hospice, Kids in Distress, and Seaview Women’s Auxiliary. She took great pride in serving her community and church. Family was a precious gift to her, and she was most proud of all the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.

Maria was the loving mother of Albert and his wife Nadine, Susan Canovas and her husband Barry, Dina Marie Filippini, Anthony and his wife LaurieAnn, Jerry and his wife Christine and Vincent and his wife Lori. She was the cherished grandmother of Jessica, Albert, Brian, Brett, Carissa, Alexa, Francesca, Gianfranco, Kyra, Taylor, Dante, Kristina, Matthew, Gabrielle and the late Hayley Filippini. Mrs. Filippini was also the great grandmother of Samantha, Juliana and Ryan. Maria is also survived by her brother Generoso Scaramuzzi, his wife Rachel, and sister-in-law Mae Scaramuzzi. She was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
