Hugo J. Acciavatti, age 85, passed away on June 24, 2017. He was a lifelong Staten Islander that resided in New Springville. He was the Beloved Husband of Jennie for over 61 years. He was a Loving Father of Ellen Mastroberti and her husband Mark, Carol Pereira and her husband Keith. He was the Cherished Grandfather of Jamie, Jaclyn, Loren, Keith Jr. and Rocco. He was a Dear Uncle to several nieces and nephews.
Hugo was born in Mariner’s Harbor in 1931. After graduating from Port Richmond High School he enlisted in the Army where he served his country honorably as a Sargeant from 1951 to 1955. While in the Army, he was the boxing feather weight champion of his battalion never losing a bout. Upon his return from the Army, he married the love of his life Jennie in 1956. By 1960, Hugo still had a tremendous desire to protect and serve others so he became a New York City Fire fighter.
In 1989, when hearing the news that he was to be a grandfather, Hugo decided it was time to retire from the Fire Department and spend more time with his family. During his retirement, Hugo enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Early Bird and Fairway golf clubs. He was a caring and selfless individual that put his family first and was a big animal lover as well. He was an avid Yankee Fan that enjoyed watching all the great Yankee Legends of his time. Hugo was truly one of a kind, always putting others first, he will be dearly missed by those he touched.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Silver Lake Nursing Home in Hugo’s memory.
