Clifford G. Salvesen, 93, of Crozet, VA, formerly of Kutztown, PA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 11, 2017. Born on Staten Island, NY, he resided in West Nyack, NY, Yardley, PA, Macungie, PA and Kutztown, PA.
Cliff graduated Port Richmond High School in 1941 and graduated Brooklyn Polytech with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering in 1956.
He is predeceased in death by his beloved wife of nearly 58 years, Ruth Carlsen, his twin brother Robert, brothers Kenneth and Ralph, and sister Ruth. He is survived by his daughter, Christine Ann Berti and her husband Lee; his son Douglas Edward Salvesen and his wife Diane; 5 grandchildren – Lisa Pennell, Dana Rosenbergen, Clifford Salvesen, Kelley Lee, Lauren Salvesen; 4 great-grandchildren – Jacob Pennell, Ryder Pennell, Ashley Rosenbergen, Haley Piper; and 20 loving nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his partner of 12 years Lorene E. Lutz of Zionsville, PA and her family.
Cliff spent nearly 40 years working at Mobil Oil Company starting in 1945 in their technical services laboratory in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. He worked as a project engineer in fuels and industrial lubricants, was supervisor of engine lubricants, and finished his career as manager of all lubricants in 1984. He was particularly proud that he earned his Chemical Engineering degree by attending night school for 12 years while working at Mobil and raising his family.
Cliff dedicated his life to his faith, family and friends. He grew up and was involved with churches his entire life; he taught Sunday School, led the church youth group, sang in church choirs, led bible studies. He attended Zion Lutheran Church on Staten Island, NY; Christ Lutheran Church in Woodcliff Lake, NJ where he and Ruth were charter members; and finally Trinity Lutheran in Kutztown, PA. He loved to travel and spent many hours a week volunteering for numerous organizations.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 505 Watchogue Road, Staten Island, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salvation Army, Lutheran World Relief, or Trinity Lutheran Church, 357 Main St., Kutztown PA 19530
